Be strong, be courageous, do the work

about me

Iโ€™m Dr. Darryl Diggs, and Iโ€™ve spent my career in education and life navigating what I call โ€œthe wilderness of leadershipโ€โ€” for me the wilderness is the myriad of carefully constructed barriers that live in our institutions, our practices, and sometimes, our own minds. As an educator, administrator, and advocate, Iโ€™ve learned that real change doesnโ€™t come from navigating the wilderness more efficientlyโ€”it comes from daring to imagine what lies beyond it.

This blog is where I share the lessons learned from standing at the edge of transformation, the wisdom gathered from building villages beyond the trees, and the ongoing work of turning equity from a buzzword into lived reality. Whether youโ€™re an educator, leader, or change-maker, youโ€™ll find strategies, stories, and support for the hard but necessary work of creating systems that serve โ€ฆrather than limit.

Messy Conversations, Meaningful Connections

Difficult conversations don’t have to be perfect to be powerful. In this engaging keynote, Dr. Diggs reveals how embracing imperfection creates authentic connections and deeper understanding. Participants learn to distinguish between harmful conversations and imperfect ones that offer growth opportunities. Through interactive exercises and practical tools, Dr. Diggs equips audiences with four core conversation skillsโ€”plus actionable intervention strategies. This session transforms how organizations handle difficult dialogue, turning missteps into meaningful connections and building stronger, more inclusive workplace relationships.

Conversations that Matter: Customer Service

Every interaction matters, especially for those who cannot speak for themselves. This conversation will challenges you to reimagine every encounter as stepping up to a customer service deskโ€”where problems get solved and everyone leaves feeling valued. Drawing inspiration from proven customer service principles, Dr. Diggs equips participants with a practical framework for treating each person with inherent dignity and respect. Through an interactive “If They Could Tell You” exercise and “Echoes That Heal” reflection, attendees confront the lasting impact of their words and commit to language that builds rather than breaks. This session transforms school/organizational culture by helping us recognize that their words become the world for others who can’t speak back, creating sustainable practices for dignity-centered workplace and school houses.

Breaking the Rules of Your Inner Fight Club

Failure doesnโ€™t have to be feared to be transformative. Drawing from his own Ironman failure at mile 80, this keynote reveals how embracing setbacks becomes the pathway to resilience and innovation. Participants learn to distinguish between destructive failure and growth-oriented risk-taking through the โ€œEarly, Often, Forwardโ€ framework. Using Fight Club metaphors and Kennedyโ€™s moonshot mentality, audiences discover practical strategies for building vulnerability, asking for help, and transforming defeat into fuel for breakthrough success. This session empowers organizations to create cultures where calculated risks drive innovation, turning โ€œmile 80โ€ moments into launching pads for extraordinary results.โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹โ€‹

Leadership, Adversity + Ethical Courage

Attendees will leave with a clear roadmap for self-development, equipped with tangible tools to maintain personal integrity, build a resilient school community, and drive meaningful change by addressing root causes rather than just surface-level issues. This session is designed for leaders seeking to transform adversity into an opportunity for growth and purpose.
